Remember to have your papers in order if you plan on attending this year’s WLOCP.  

Of course, that may be a start, but will not serve as a guarantee against a particularly diligent government.

If we American citizens want to be free from government tyranny, then it seems that we’re just going to have to accept a lot less freedom from government tyranny.  As such, we’re going to need some new mottos.  Some possible suggestions:

Live unfree and then die. 

Please tread on me, really hard.

  3. Look, Derek. I’m sure you mean well, but can we please stop with the political posts? I get enough politics in my daily life, and I come here to read and talk about Georgia. This should be a refuge, a place that brings us together for our shared love of the Dawgs. Yet your posts create division and strife. There are countless places on the internet where you can post this stuff and engage in discussion and debate.

    That being said, I may be in the minority here. If so, then so be it. Maybe someone can post a poll and let the regulars decide if we want to keep this “feature” or not.

    • For the first time ever, the rational for the playpen will be explained….

      The playpen serves as a reminder not to pollute the other posts with politics for all of the reasons you state.

      There is no requirement to read the playpen or to engage with the playpen or to be divided or striven within the playpen.

      Please, by all means, and for all that is holy and decent, skip it. Each and every time.

      Or, jump in the mud. The choice is yours.

      Unlike the prior place:

      – hijacking posts down political rabbit holes is rare to unheard of.

      – management policing comments and/or commenters is rare to unheard of.

      – banishments have not happened, yet.

      I understand and empathize with your deep torment here, but try to understand that all we really want is not to read a game day thread comment about how Bobo is as bad at his job as “insert politician.” Which for me, would be far worse than simply having to endure the immense burden of skipping over a clearly marked forum that I don’t particularly like.

      • I understand your reasoning, but I find it a bit faulty. I’m curious if anyone on here was ever tempted to post something political in a sports thread and stopped themselves with the thought that “You know what, I can just wait for Derek’s post to express myself.” You may think you’re doing a good service, but I maintain my contention that you’re only bringing division and discord to a group that has gathered here to share something positive.

        And yes, I can skip your posts and I regularly do. I just wanted to offer my thoughts. As I said before, if I’m in the minority on this, then so be it.

        • 1) No one clicks “playpen” and says to themselves “shit…politics!”

          2) I don’t think the thought process is as you describe. I think its more about being aware of the boundaries in the regular comment sections. That awareness then leads to self censorship. I also think there is something to be said for “recess.” You let the children run around outside for a bit because you know they’ll be throwing haymakers at each other in math period if you don’t give them an outlet.

          • I’ll try one more time because I guess I haven’t clearly explained my position.

            I do not want political posts on this website. Yes, I’m fully aware that I can skip them, and I do. But I don’t think they serve the good purpose you believe they do. The existence of the playpen will not stop someone from inserting politics into their comments elsewhere if they’re so inclined.

            I also strongly believe that these debates will force the readers into separate camps and create tension. That tension will inevitably carry over into non-political debates in other posts. Once Reader A, who is strongly liberal, knows Reader B is strongly conservative, A could (and likely will) feel antagonistic towards B and vice versa in future interactions. If they had never engaged in political debate, all they would know about either other is that they are Dawg fans. Sure, they may not agree on Bobo or other aspects of UGA, but politics has a unique ability to divide and sow hatred in our society.

            All I ask is that you take this elsewhere. Start your own blog. Hell, call it GTP Politics for all I care. But having it here does nobody any good and can only create conflict.

        • When I go to the grocery store to buy food for a meal and I’m all hungry and I see the tampax in the aisle and I get all nauseous.

          I tell the check out person that I don’t use them and I don’t come to the grocery store for that!

          Fwiw, Ranger and I got along fine on the sports posts. Couldn’t be farther apart on politics.

          You can more easily separate those issues when they are in fact separated. Its actually harder to get along when those issues or voiced in an inappropriate forum.

          I’ve been around both forums for quite a long time and I have not seen the sort of dynamics you are concerned about.

          Use your voice for good and write to the White House and tell them to stop sending him to college football games.

      • To be fair, the Senator posted and commented a lot on events that naturally led to political discussion; in particular topics like Title 9, player unionization, and pay for play which are almost moot at this point. Not seeing that issue here much. I think you are using it as an excuse to get up on your stump weekly and preach to us heathens, but perhaps I am mistaken.

        • When The Senator delved into politics, it was things that DIRECTLY affected the game we love. Topics like NIL, Title IX, antitrust etc. are intricately interwoven into college sports and unavoidable. If it does not DIRECTLY affect college sports, then it should be saved for some other bitch and moan site.

The linked story is from the AP, currently in court because their fee fees were hurt by the Trump administration. The real story about this US citizen has already been out there since the day this lie was “reported”. The individual detained TOLD THE ARRESTING OFFICERS HE WAS NOT A US CITIZEN and was in the country ILLEGALLY. He even SIGNED an affidavit to that effect! The real story is WHY did he say this. My guess is to get the reaction the AP gave him…….ORANGE MAN BAD. Leftist are total fucktards who will believe anything. Dam bro

  8. As I have said before, I don’t often agree with Derek but on this he is not wrong. President Trump wants to send U.S. citizens to foreign jails. He has said so several times. The first was when he hosted the self described “world’s coolest dictator” at the White House. Attorney General Pam Bondi responded that they are looking into the legality of doing so. We need to wake up to the fact that Trump isn’t simply throwing red meat to his base with no intention to follow through.

    President Trump says his administration is actively exploring a proposal to detain U.S. citizens and send them to prisons in El Salvador. Speaking Monday, minutes before a press briefing alongside El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, Trump could be heard embracing the concept.

    “The homegrowns are next, the homegrowns. You’ve got to build about five more places,” Trump said to Bukele, an apparent reference to prison space that would be needed in El Salvador to house U.S. citizens.

    • This particular law is a Gov. Desantis signed law.

      But you’re not wrong. Of course the legality of sending citizens to foreign gulags is pretty clear. No looking into it required.

      The last two gop presidents have intentionally tested the limits of the executive to do whatever it wants.

      What I can’t understand is why there is no forethought that expanding the boundaries of executive authority, once established, can be used by future administrations with different priorities.

      You can’t focus on the desirability of a particular policy goal. You have to be wary of unchecked power and you have to be willing to defend the rights of the undeserving or you’ll soon find that you have no rights either.

  13. Carolinadawg, mwodieseldawg – As one who has violated the “Save it for the Playpen” rule let me share my testimony. There was a thread early on in the Refugees where a commenter posted something along the lines that “player x” had played like Biden’s diaper, or something to that effect. The comment totally misdirected the thread. As one who occasionally volunteers here, and being a sensitive person, I felt for the poster who had taken his time to prepare material for the Refugee audience. I wrangled with my conscience back and forth. In truth I could have said “Save it for the playpen” but instead I responded by sharing a video of Trump supporters wearing diapers at a rally in solidarity with their candidate. My share rightly received the rebuke it should have, but the other diaper commenter backed down as well.

    As Derek has stated one million times, the Playpen is the outlet for whatever non-football topic you want to discuss. If it’s the incontinence of old people, here’s the spot. If it’s your opinion that we should round up the “others” without due process and send them for rendition to what has been described as sh*thole countries, this is your spot. Just don’t hijack the football thread of someone who has volunteered their time to keep the Refugees viable, unless of course you’re trying to destroy the site. In that case, as Derek points out, the Admins will have to banish the poster to a lifetime of reading StingTalk for news of Georgia football.

    Personally, I would like to point out that I have learned from other posters in this blog. Over my seven plus decades I have found that if I only expose myself to what is convenient or pleasing to me , I don’t learn anything new. For example, Anonymous – “Fixin 2” (and why can’t we get that fixed) pointed out Megyn Kelly as a reliable source for news that was not tilted left or right. After getting past the mental image of “blood coming out of her wherever,” I did see how watching a different source provided fodder for further research. So, thanks, I guess, Fixin 2.

    Lastly, if you’re opposed to free speech in a Wild West type environment that has been provided to let people shoot from the hip, walk on by. It’s like the sign at the Boobie Bungalow, “If you’re offended by nudity, don’t enter here.”

  14. budlite, I’m 64 and agree with almost everything you post. I agree 100% with what Derek posts about football. I should do the honorable thing and just skip the playpen. It’s like watching the Loveboat Channel on Pluto TV and getting pissed because they’re showing the Loveboat. I’d be willing to bet that every Wednesday from now to eternity, The Playpen will be a diatribe railing on Trump by Derek. I made my original post because I honestly don’t understand how someone can be so consumed by another human being alive that it dominates their life. There are people I that I wouldn’t piss on if they were on fire, but I don’t let them fuck up my day.

    • I’m not speaking for Derek, he’s very capable of speaking for himself. :~) I think what is getting confused here is that Derek is taking items from the news, which are just facts, and presenting them for discussion. If you have noticed, Derek has never used the meme “Orange Man Bad” or “Trump Hitler”. That’s coming from the Donald’s supporters on the site. The memes are an attempt to defuse a discussion about the POLICY. In a Harry Truman “the buck stops here” scenario, the policies can be attributed to Trump, but none of us are naive enough to think that the Donald has the interest or capacity to put together project 2025. There are some evil, diabolical m.f.’s changing America from being that “shining city on a hill” to something much bleaker. That’s what I think we need to talk about.

        Derek is wrong about a lot of things when it comes to politics, but he’s ultimately in the right universe to be concerned about a lot of what this administration is trying to do. I just don’t want him or his people making the decisions instead. There is no viable, competitive political party on the United States these days. Until enough American voters are able to take a critical stock of the excesses of their own side rather than always focusing on being just a little less awful than their perceived enemies, that will continue to be the case.
