Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming

Seems like the fix was a success, mostly. Next steps for us:

Otis is going to do some adjusting back to some of the features of the old site, like the categories and view counter and all that. The look might adjust and shift as edits are made, so keep talking with us and let us know if any new gremlins arise, it’ll be easier for us to adjust as we take it one step at a time.

I’ve already communicated some issues – the phone version has a very small font size, and some of you are reporting getting an influx of emails everytime a comment or like is made. Well look in to both.

On our side, it was likely a plugin that was added somewhere, so we will be careful about what we connect to the site moving forward.

It’s nice to see some old familiar faces again. Tell your friends we’re back…looking forward to our continued journey together.

  1. Those pesky plug-ins. They’re like the 2024 Vandy team. They just keep gumming up the works.

  2. Looks better every time I check.
    Great job guys!!!
Hate we lost the blog stats (or maybe we didn’t), because we were tracking really well on hitting 1,000,000 by 3/18. Why that date?
3/18/2024 is when we lost RangerRuss and I’ve been pulling for that to happen in his memory. Let’s make it happen guys!!!

  3. Good to know JP. Have been keeping track of that for a…while.
GotCowdog has already mentioned that he’d share a couple of RangerRuss tales with us for the post we hope is coming Tuesday, March 18th. (Hint, hint) 🤞😉🤞

    • I like what Y’all have done with the site. I’m also glad to see some of the old hands come in out of the cold. I started hanging out on GTP in 2007 (Maybe? I remember the Hawaii game, Marcus Howard committed assault with intent on Colt Brennan when the ball popped out… says Commenter Russ: “I thought that was his spleen”) and knew I’d found a home. It’s hard to believe I’ve been hanging around here 18 years.
@Whit1356: Yeah, I’ve got a story or two. I’ll start with a question: What did you picture RangerRuss looked like when you read his posts. Don’t answer here. Save it for the roundtable.

  4. Thank you for all the great work y’all do! Here’s hoping this comment goes through!

  5. Really appreciate all the hard work the “team” has put in to allow us long time listeners but infrequent commenters to once again be able to put our $0.02 in.

  6. Testing…and fail. iPad and Chrome this time. Still have to login, refresh, and doesn’t keep info. Can’t see who Likes. Thinking some may be browser security settings so I’ll fiddle on my end.

        • JP…may I assume this is not the issue on your end?

          From WP help:

Make sure ‘Users must be registered and logged in to comment‘ is not checked, and your readers will not have to be WordPress.com members to comment.

If you leave ‘Comment author must fill out name and e-mail’ checked, they do not need to be WordPress.com members, but they’ll have to submit to you a name and email along with their comment. But if you’re okay with people commenting anonymously, you can also uncheck that.

I hope to have helped — have a great blogging.

  7. Shenanigans. Still don’t stay signed in here. But every other – literally every single other – WordPress site I’m signed in with my Username and avator on the top right. Don’t have to ‘sign in’ to comment or do anything else. What sort of unholy gremlin have y’all unleashed ?

    • Can still Like but not see names of others. When I hover iPad wants to take me to a WP link among other choices but nothing happens. Might be an IOS thing I’ll look into.

Again, the mirror site from a couple of weeks ago was fully functional for me.

      • According to WP help the ability to see who likes a comment should happen when you tap the comments counter part of the Likes link (“Liked by you and X others”). But that’s not happening for me. Hitting anywhere on the Like hyperlink just toggles whether I like the comment. The Like for the entire Post at the top, however, works when I tap that counter and I can see each persons avatar if they have one. Interestingly, AI help answers that you “may” see who else has liked a comment. Does not refer to anything different about the WP setting or plugins. I’ll keep digging.

        • Ok, checked the original site. The comments counter should show the number of likes with a hyperlink underline. Not seeing that here. Must be another obscure setting or gremlin.

  8. I have to identify myself every time when I comment through safari even though I have it set to remember me but I don’t have to login into WordPress.

      • I cleared the browser and then logged in directly thru WordPress and it still prompts me for the information via safari.

        • With your WP login credentials or via your Google or Facebook options it offers? Would definitely use a unique WP one if you didn’t. Next would be to clear Safari again including cookies, not just history and reboot device. I’m no expert but think there are IOS gremlins that don’t work well with WP sites.

  9. You guys have done yeoman’s work on this. Glad to see that you’ve mostly gotten it figured out.
