Quick Editorial Note – Remembering the Senator

Believe it or not, Saturday will mark the one year anniversary of Michael Brochstein’s, aka The Senator, passing. I won’t say much here, as we have a post scheduled for Saturday to serve as tribute to the man who educated, entertained, and enthralled us for so long at Get the Picture.

The post will go live early in the morning on Saturday, and I’ll add a link to the “mirror site” where I know commenting functionality allows everyone to comment with ease (more about that in a separate post tomorrow) and leave their thoughts, if desired, on the tribute post.

In case anyone is new here, I’m adding a couple of links to help inform any of our newer followers of who the Senator was, and why his impact was so important to us all. The link to the original Get the Picture blog is up above.

  1. The most unique, thoughtful and entertaining football blog on the intertubes. Quite the legacy among those who were able to enjoy it over the years.

Saturday we should recall some of the great characters to appear over the years…RangerRuss, Joyfully Jane, Dog in Florida, etc.

      • DiF was GTP’s Andy Kaufman. The initial (and second … and third) reaction for most people was “What the Alachua County ditch lizard hell is he saying?” But once you figured out his schtick, he was quite entertaining.

  2. Very classy to remember Bluto…it’s been a though year

Pour some rot gut on the ground for Russ too…ole RR was one of a kind

    • Having been threatened with being placed in GTP timeout (multiple use of gaytur) I thought was picky at the time, kinda’ still do, also was a badge of honor, after many back and forths with him, he understood, I could GAS less what an individuals life style or social agenda was…Blutarsky 24 Start Drinking Heavily!!!!!

    • Must have been many a fun fishing trips with his FU buddy…as always I salute you Ranger Russ and thank you for your service, plus, your fucking way with the English language…Salute!!!!

  3. I sincerely miss Our Senator and Ranger Russ.
    Great Americans and
    DAMN GOOD DAWGS

  4. I still have GTP bookmarked and occasionally read some of the Senator’s posts. (The end of the Richt era was an especially interesting time on the blog.) I’d love to hear his take on the rapid degradation of CFB – though I think I can guess pretty closely what it’d be.

In any case, thanks for taking up the GTP mantle, JP. GTPR is a worthy successor and has been a godsend in the Senator’s absence.

    • Many thanks. I say it time and time again, it’s fun and I love the discourse. Looking forward to getting the comments functioning fully again so everyone’s reunited and talking.

      • I was over at the old GTP site and looking at some of the handles used on the site. Seems a lot of them didn’t come over to GTPR. Many of those folks were great commenters. Guess they could be lurking or changed their handles.
