It’s Vegas, Baby – But That Won’t Help Viewership

Well, so much for traditions and regional balance for miles travelled for a national championship.

Also, peep the date. Are they trying to compete with the Super Bowl at this point? For reference, the game would be played tomorrow…how’s that for “the season was too long”. And yes, that’s on a Monday…again.

The Committee is unconcerned with your personal joy of the game. Maybe it’s foreshadowing a west coast team in the 2027 iteration.

FTMFs.

  1. They should play the week before the Super Bowl but why Monday? Why not Saturday?

Is there a basketball contract impediment?

  2. Jokes on them, the Climate Crisis is gonna kill us in 2024!

In all seriousness, though, will I even watch football by then? Kirby’s Back-to-Back (including 15-0) really gave me a lot of satisfaction to live on. 2023’s not Three Peating was a bummer but this past season was just painful to watch with the dumbest scheduling, ever and we still won the conference. Then the 12 Team seemed unbearable until I stopped watching after the sUGAr bowl. I just don’t know anymore. We no longer tailgate fancy by Memorial Hall and I’m finding other things to do and places to go. Gone are the days of the kegs & eggs 9am kickoffs in Reno. shrug emoji

  3. Yeah, cause the “Championship Game” at Levi’s Stadium was such a success. Let’s put it on the west coast again. Let alone the ratings disaster that the TCU game was. WTF, they could give 2 shits about CFB out there. Why on earth are you letting them host this game?

    • Mickey is creating commercial time and calendar space for the up and coming cfp expansion, coming from a don’t give a sheott cfp committee near you….

  4. Maybe they can start the game at 11PM to give the renowned west coast college football base a prime time championship. Screw the fans that helped make the sport what it is, we need that Hollywood money!

  5. All playoff games should be on Saturdays. The CFP should begin the week after the conference championship games (or the same week if we ever get rid of those games that don’t mean what they used to) and play each Saturday after until the National Championship game. Saturdays belong to college football. As for the NFL….FTMFs! THEY should not play on Saturdays any time during the college football season AND postseason!

  6. This just seems gross to me. Maybe they think they can make some extra bank with a fan duel or draft kings sponsorship deal where the players can where the logos on the jerseys and helmets. I’ll pass on this bullshit.

  7. If they are playing in that time zone the game should be on early enough that we don’t have to stay up until midnight.

    • They’ll likely lose most of the potential audience in the East.
The fans of the teams that are in it will watch.
I didn’t stay up to watch this last one and neither did a lot of other people that would have watched it on a Saturday.
CFB’s fan base in general is getting more and more jaded.
The idiots making these decisions are killing the golden goose.

      • A few of us have pointed this out multiple times, take a passionate fan base, try to take it national. The passionate base you banked on sees them manipulation and slowly grows jaded and starts skipping an event here and there until they really don’t care.

        Sounds like NASCAR. Now CFB.

  8. Since the cfp is not an NCAA event and the NCAA rules say that a team cannot play more games than 12 regular season games plus a conference championship plus one post season games without NCAA approval (the college football playoff LLC had got get waivers from the NCAA, and the NCAA approved them) the NCAA could always assert its authority and decree that it will not approve a championship game on a Monday.
Won’t happen because b8g money always gets it’s way.

  9. Honestly, I don’t get the angst about the Vegas venue. They pick a different big city every season as long as it has a Newish NFL venue that has lots of luxury boxes/areas. From what I understand Allegiant is the newest one, right? This was inevitable.

I’m sure everyone has a lot of opinions about Vegas, but at least there will be plenty of flights and hotel rooms.
