So…Where Do We Go From Here?

Morning, Refugees. I’m sure we are all waking up and wrestling with the reality of what happened last night. As someone who scours social media for content, I’d advise against roaming out into that world today. No doubt Vols and Gators and everyone is having a joyful day because of last night, so protect your mental health and stay away…

That being said, let’s see what y’all’s thoughts are on what needs to be corrected in short order for the Dawgs to still finish with their season goals intact. I’ll throw my two cents out there:

  1. What the hell is wrong with our tight ends? I wasn’t expecting Bowers level play from them, but I also wasn’t expecting ineptitude in all facets like I’ve seen so far. Yurosek can head back to the PAC-2, to be honest. He’s not made for SEC play.
  2. We’re going to have to figure out how to get our guys to play with urgency from the jump and avoid “slow starts”. Alabama came out with their asses on fire and feeling disrespected, and it showed. We weren’t ready for the attitude and energy that DeBoer has brought to Tuscaloosa, and that’s scary. Alabama seemed almost undisciplined at times but that feels like it’s Kalen’s DNA for them to have attitude and be shit-talkers, and I think that’s appealing to the nearly 100 recruits they had at the game last night.
  3. Our tackling skills have declined for some reason, no idea why. That’s concerning since that’s been a cornerstone of CKS defenses, and it’s not there this year like in years past.

That’s a short list, and there’s certainly more, but I’m curious to hear your thoughts. And keep it civil, scamps.

  1. A little off topic but I was thinking about our quarterbacks over the last 40 years. I’m old. We generally get the kind of quarterback that is good to very good at the college level. The David Greene and Jake Fromm type quarterbacks. Only Matthew Stanford went on to have a career as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Other schools land quarterbacks that not only play in the NFL, they often win the starting position quickly. Kirby and his coaches have a reputation for being some of the best recruiters in the country. Why can’t we land the truly elite quarterbacks?

  2. Where do we go from here, let me count the ways….take a moment to heal our collective senses, get on with the barner game plan and hopefully send those ass wipes back to their cesspool with a big Fucking “L”….#AUBURN SUCKS!!

    • For about 29 minutes yesterday, Auburn looked like a competent team. Then they Auburned again. Oklahoma is awful and still found a way to score 24. Only thing that worries me is we let a 17 year old catch 177 yards worth of passes and Auburn has a couple good receivers. We gotta get our heads right and fast.

  3. Well, I think we found out that there is at least one team out there for which punting and playing defense won’t get it done.

I don’t know why it takes Carson so long to get going or why he seems to make so many mental errors, but that shit needs correcting.

He’s costing himself some lambos and onlyfans chicks with his play right now.

If he could get locked in from the start, protect the football and put the ball where our guy, and only our guy, can catch it, I think we’ll be fine.

    • Just an observation from an old man, I’m seeing a quarterback making business decisions. I mentioned before the laconic right turn to the sideline in the Ky game with green grass and a first down ahead of him. If you’ve ever seen anything like the QB run last night to get near the 1st down marker, turn to lope to the sidelines and after realizing it was too far, turn his back to the defenders to ameliorate the hit, please let me know. It was the move of a quarterback that knows he’s not supposed to get hit in scrimmage.
No, he’s not the only player on the field and he’s not the only one making mistakes, but he is the only one projected as the first round draft choice if he stays healthy. And yes, maybe, I’d do the same thing. Just sayin….

      • I saw Fromm slide in a national championship game short of a first down, so who knows about all that stuff? What’s good for Carson’s business is putting up good film against good comp.

I like my qbs to burn hot or run cold. Right now he plays a lot like Murray used to in many big games. Big eyed and uncertain. Sure the talent and the accuracy and the acumen is there, but what about the intangibles?

I want a guy who will chew a guy’s throat out to win or plays football with the same demeanor as a dude sitting by the pool sipping cocktails and chatting up the ladies. Give me a killer or a sniper. Everyone feeds off the energy of your qb, for better or for worse, and right now I don’t know that its at the correct setting right now.

If he can pick a lane and play the role, we can get this done. If not, we won’t.

      • I don’t question Beck’s heart/fight. He was running for first downs at the end, yelling and hyping the O on the sidelines during the comeback. But I will question if his style is one of real leadership of the guys and one the guys all rally to the way they did Stetson, etc.

        • Maybe he’ll turn the corner and the second half will be a jump off point they/we can look back to.

I don’t know. I’m not there. I just see a lot of flat starts and usually they are happening in conference games. I also see a lot of wtf throws.

Why? I don’t know. I know the kid can play. Can he lead? By example and otherwise?

  4. Fire Bobo and hire an elite OC and QB coach. Either recruit or grab a dual threat QB out of the portal.

  5. Posting issues last night, so hope I’m not beating a dead horse here.

Your #2 point has driven me crazy for over a year. Lackadaisical ho-hum starts, never a sense of urgency until it was too late last night. You see those videos of runners celebrating too early, only to lose at the finish line? That’s us, basking in our own glory right out the gate- “so glad we could be here for you…wait, we have to play too???”

A fire needs to be lit under their assess from the git-go.

  6. Agree with you on TE play. It has been abysmal. Luckie seems like the only one that can catch. None of them block as well as some of our WRs. Yurosek is a bust.

Seems like offenses have figured out our defense. That was the fifth time Kirby’s defense has given up 40+ to Bama. He needs to figure something out. If it’s Schumann’s defense, then he’s got the rest of the season to figure it out or Kirby needs to cut him loose. Tackling is bad this season as well.

Beck may have reached his peak (RS Sr), so we’ll have to figure something out with him. The game plan attacked from the beginning, but players were tight. Beck couldn’t throw a better pass to Smith on the first drive and Smith dropped it. Catch that, get a quick score and maybe they settle down.

    • I will add here that we still have everything to play for. If we play like we did 2nd half, I like our chances against anyone.

Just make it to the tournament healthy, and we should have a great shot at it.

    • Christen Miller whiffing on a Milroe sack was hard to see. It’s that kind of stuff that makes me wonder what happened to the tackling acumen of our team. Our secondary looked helpless.

      • Expecting a 300 lb kid to corral Milroe in space is a big ask. Its just a mismatch.

I heard Kirby say at the post-game presser that they were too aggressive early. I completely agree. You don’t want to flush that guy. Your best hope is to turn him into a statue. If he beats you with his arm, well he beats you with his arm. Freeing up blitzers is usually a great plan. Not against this one. Because he runs away from them.

I’d guess that we don’t have a guy on our roster who is getting him down alone if Milroe sees/feels him coming. Too big, too quick and too fast.

If you knew he’d chuck it under pressure fine, but if he’s running away from the free rusher, you just have to cover and hope he makes mistakes with the ball.

  7. If I had any remaining hope for Arian Smith, last night ended it. I know he ended with some good catches but that 1st quarter whiff was HUGE! Imagine how different the game is if we tie them at 7-7 early. And the first Beck pick… is it my imagination or was the slant supposed to go to Arian and he never even looked for it. He’s a waste of a roster spot and need to stop throwing to him.

    • It was supposed to be a tunnel screen and if Smith runs the correct route he could’ve made a huge gain. I don’t get the kid, he has his moments, both good and bad.

      • I really think Arian has tried like hell to become a good football player and sometimes he is. But at his core I think he’s a track guy playing football.

  8. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. I’m really trying to hold my tongue in response to people who are bitching about the first regular season game we’ve lost since November 2020.

    Did we play well? No.
Did we fight like hell? Yes.
Can all of this be fixed? Yes.

I had us at 11-1 regular season before the season. Can we still do that? Yep. Will we? We’ll see.

The Senator would not see it necessary to tell us all to step away from the ledge. Let’s get ready to honor and remember him on Saturday.

    • You don’t see how stupid and incompetent the staff is? I mean come on! Everyone wins at Bryant Denny!!

      And by everyone I mean:

      2023 Texas 24-34
      2019 LSU 41-46
      2015 OM 37-43
      2012 Texas A&M 24-29
      2011 LSU 6-9
      2010 Auburn 27-28
And past that you’re into 2007.

So if they play 7 times a year there they are only about 113-6 over the last 18 seasons. And a whole one of them was by more than a td!

      Come on BOBO!!

But if you play for or win the natty you’ve got a real chance down there. I see 2 teams that won it all, 1 that played for it in a rematch and another semifinalist. If you have Johnny Football or get gifted 5 first half TO’s that will get it done too though it will be close. I bet Bobo didn’t even offer Manziel!!

So pretty much if you know what you’re doing, you always win in Tuscaloosa.

      Fire everyone.

  9. I am not in the arena, but you don’t have to be to know that if we had played the first half like we played the second half (all four quarters) we would be grinning from ear to ear and making plans for the finals. The O had problems all over the place but they still scored over 30 points against what looks like a decent D. I blame most of the craptastic play on our defense. Allowing 3 TDs before we even seem to know that the game has started in inexcusable unless they are just physically that much better than you are. Even then, all the D has to at the end of the game is not allow a 78 yard TD bomb. It looked to me like JH was trying to make an INT instead of doing his job which is to break up the pass.

    • 2024 UGA football has some warts, some removable, some built in, Saturday night involved a large dosage of exploitation, luck, then more of that “take what the opposition d gives you”…UGA football scores 34 and takes an L home, take that painful L and twist into a “W” vs shit eating tigles….when UGA football secondary is defending the pass, then gets seared by the opposition qb, then asked to defend the run more and opposition receiver’s are catching passes, then moving the chains, shit happens and it took UGA football down…GO DAWGS!!

  10. Where do we go? I may have to go to the weed store so I can forget this. Completely baffled we could play a half that bad. We looked more like Georgia Tech than UGA last night. And I’m sorry but NIL deals come with higher expectations in my mind. You drive a super car then you best play super well.

  11. For the people clamoring for Rashada, he’s like a Buck ninety and is about six foot four. Want to see him get totally destroyed and broken into a million pieces? Play him against Alabama as he is right now.

  12. Call me an optimist or even a fool, but I think we’ll look back on this game as a turning point. CKS will have their full attention now.

For all the grief Bobo takes, he didn’t drop a touchdown pass or miss a tackle. (We have a couple of guys that might have seen their last playing time.)

    Concerns:

    Slow starts
    Titty pulling AKA arm tackling
Slow outside linebacker (maybe better suited for the inside?)
Dropped passes (maybe we’ll try you as a DB)
Unrealistic expectations – we can’t win ’em all, dammit!

Hope all are recovering from the storm. Keep praying!

  13. I know he’s still an analyst, but Boom’s presence on the field and in the huddle is missed. Has anyone seen him on the field?
