That’s how the Rams GM saw it. He thinks the time off to get his head right was a benefit, and I’m inclined to agree. Who knows if he’s able to bounce back and resume as improbable a journey as I’ve ever seen a UGA athlete undertake, but every hero’s journey has a crisis, some adversity, some moment where he’s a step away from total defeat if he doesn’t rise up. I admit I’m pulling for him. He’s one of us, after all. He didn’t get us to b2b NCs by himself, not at all, but he was an important part of it.
For two years at UGA he was under tremendous pressure, first as a backup, not knowing if he would be called on and then getting the chance and grabbing the job but with a starter right behind him waiting to get back in. Then when he established himself as the starter, the fans were anything but behind him 100%. It was when will he screw up and cost us a game. Anybody would be at lest a nervous wreck. Then he quarterbacks the first National Championship in 41 years. He could have quit then and still been the QB of 2021. He must have really loved the team or something because he came back and the fans were still not 100% on board. After going through another pressure cooker season he manages another NC. He earned a year off, he needed a year off but he knew that if he took it he was screwed by the NFL. The Rams and I think Matt S. realized he could be a good QB backup but not if he had a nervous break down. He is a lucky guy and I wish him nothing but the best because he laid it on the line for UGA.
Go get em, Stet! Keep improving and be ready when your time comes.
I can see a Drew Brees like career for Stetson if he can put his devils behind him. A DGD and he deserves every success.
