Aaron Philo has opinions. For a guy who hasn’t ever experienced a W against UGA, he’s got a lot to say.

Do I understand why he’d be mad about not getting recruited by UGA? Sure. Do I understand why he’d be mad after getting his ass beat as part of the Brent Key Weeping Blowhard Experience? Absolutely. He grew up in the shadow of UGA, they judged him not up to The Standard. He’s entitled to his opinion.
But damn, son. Don’t you have access to media where you live? Is there a coach and a program in America that turns bulletin board material into rocket fuel better than UGA? Bangin’ your gums about how much you hate UGA hasn’t worked too well for ol’ Brett. People around Gainesville can tell you how well it’s worked out for them since Irvin Meyers left.
I guess we will see him at MBS this fall. Appreciate the help focusing, amigo. Kirby and his team probably won’t acknowledge a word he said in public, but I’m guessing it may come up in private. He better hope he doesn’t have an alligator mouth and a hummingbird ass.
FTMF. I hope Ryan Pugliese takes his UGA GF after we beat his ass in Atlanta. Sounds like she should jump in the Relationship Transfer Portal and trade up.

Is This Thing On?
In keeping with JP’s post about the off season doldrums, I realized I haven’t posted anything on a good little while. It is possible this is considered a positive development here, but it’s mostly because (I think) one word press update or another hid the “publish” menu from me. So, today I decided to hunt for it.
I’m thinking I found it (possibly tough luck if you are an Auburn fan). I’m just throwing this up here to see if it works. If it does, I may weigh in with my deep thoughts, insightful comments, and (of course) the sarcasm for which I am best known.
Lets see if it works.

what Erk said goes double for this guy. I hope it chaps Spurrier’s ass forever that his last game v UGA left him toting a 50 point beating, so hard it made him quit.

1995 was a loooooonnnng time ago, Coach. There’s a new sheriff in town, and he isnt wearing orange and blue.
“KIRBY’S LYIN’ TO US, PAWWWWWLLLL!”
This example of frenzied outrage is hilarious. A couple of Barner homers are tres unhappy that Kirby disrespected them by claiming not to know who ordered the Code Red, errrr, that Auburn would be this year’s homecoming opponent. Let us count the ways.
- They were openly outraged of “Kirby’s dismissive attitude” of this brilliant question. Let me help you, Lester and Earl: it was a stupid question. You might as well have asked him what his favorite shade of nail polish was. That’s how relevant their question was to 2024 UGA football.
- They were outraged that Kirby said he didn’t know (or seem to care) who made the decision to select homecoming weekend. Kirby should have said “Why would I know?” It has zero to do with winning. If we know anything about Kirby, no detail is too small for him to notice…if it affects winning games. Why would Kirby care when homecoming is? Should he worry that his team won’t take their oldest rival seriously now? Should he worry that an Auburn program that lost 15 of the last 18 (with 2 of the wins being end of game flukes?) to us is NOW GOING TO BE EXTRA MOTIVATED? Come on, fellas. Do you think Kirby has anything else to worry about? Like recruiting, roster management, NIL, recruiting, staff management, facilities management, recruiting, the portal, player discipline, donor PR, little things like game planning and prep, and last but not least, recruiting. Homecoming is 5000+on his punch list, if it’s even on there.
- They were outraged at THE DISRESPECT BEING SHOWN TO AUBURN BY THIS MOVE, JUST LIKE NICK SABAN, WHO KIRBY USED TO WORK FOR, WOULD HAVE DONE! Honestly, Tech and Vandy have better winning percentages against us than AU since 2005. Do they think we need the motivational boost of the alumni band and cheerleaders to handle them? You want to make yourself a less attractive home coming opponent, and protect your feelings from that mean old Kirby? Try being worth a damn.
They seem to think Kirby spends all his time worrying about them. To the extent he does, it’s like he thinks about every single team on the schedule: what helps us beat them? Sure, he might sit around thinking “As SunTzu says in The Art of War, if your enemy is of choleric temper, seek to enrage him.” But I doubt even a detail oriented dude like Kirby is that OCD. It would be fine with me if he was, but I think he’s more focused on the actual game strategy.
As for me and my house, we say FTMF. Be patient, Barners. Your ass whuppin’ is on the way; you’ll get it as soon as possible. So let it be written. So let it be done. Thus endeth the lesson.
This just infuriates me
goodbye, Rose Bowl trip I’ve been looking forward to since 2017. But hey, I get more frequent trips to College Station, Starkville, Columbia (either one) and places I have zero interest in. Nothing to be done for it, but I’m still mad. https://www.si.com/college/georgia/football/georgia-football-cancels-future-season-openers-against-ucla-01j2eys46z3v
The game plan hasn’t changed much for 2024.

The only real changes are we start by whipping Clemson’s ass to start with, then 14 more, then one more. What hasn’t changed? We still have no alternate plan.
As for the listed and eventual opponents of UGA after week 1, please be patient. Your ass whipping is being custom crafted by our college football artisans, and will be delivered to you as quickly as we can get to you. HBTFD!
Stetson was “an exhausted human being” last year
That’s how the Rams GM saw it. He thinks the time off to get his head right was a benefit, and I’m inclined to agree. Who knows if he’s able to bounce back and resume as improbable a journey as I’ve ever seen a UGA athlete undertake, but every hero’s journey has a crisis, some adversity, some moment where he’s a step away from total defeat if he doesn’t rise up. I admit I’m pulling for him. He’s one of us, after all. He didn’t get us to b2b NCs by himself, not at all, but he was an important part of it.
The other shoe, she is dropping.
Apparently, nobody knows where the proposed $2.8 billion settlement will go, except $100 million to the lawyers (hey, lawyers got to eat, too. 3%, give or take, sounds fair). One of the things I disagreed with the Senator about, as he seemed to advocate for paying players, was his view of Title IX. He seemed to me to dismiss it as a real factor. Maybe he was right, but I’ve always wondered how it would be dealt with. The college presidents, Dawg bless them, seem to be in denial. 80% of the settlement money to mens football and hoops? What about payments going forward? “Uh, we are waiting to see what the plaintiffs propose.” Way to get out in front, suits. Jere, Dawg bless him, is outraged about the proposed attorney’s fees. He has been a good president, and I know he’s a smart guy, but dude. Focus on the big picture here. 3% < 97% + billions in future payments. Maybe focus on that. I have no real idea where it all goes, but I imagine the battle over the right side of the equation is just warming up.
My reaction? Get your best hold.
I guess Baghdad Bob is an IPTAY member. Someone forward this to Kirby. He might not realize how Dabo has him right where Dabo wants him.

And here we go….

Many questions surround how revenue sharing will work. The one that never seems to me to be addressed is “how will Title IX affect where the money goes?“ For years, I have heard the question brushed off: it doesn’t really apply. It doesn’t really matter. It won’t be a big deal.
I don’t claim to understand the fine details of Title IX. But I understand something about litigation. I’ve seen what has happened the last 40 years. Regardless of your position on any of this, or what you think should happen, human nature is a constant. People always want more.
The old NCAA system seems built on the basis of “We are all part of this school, sports are primarily part of the school experience, like debate societies or choral groups or student government.” Money was always something of an issue; stuff has to be paid for, but it was not “a revenue stream“ as much as it was a way to cover it’s own costs. Obviously, that changed over time, but that was the foundation.
College sports became more popular . People would pay more to go to a football game, they would listen in the radio and buy papers and magazines to read about it. Then came TV, and the internet. More money. And then comes Title IX. Pay for the women to have athletic experience opportunities equivalent to the guys, colleges. Make it work.
T9 kind of fits in the one for all, all for one college approach. Football may generate lots of cash, though not everywhere, but the rest of the sports? Negative net income, including most women’s programs everywhere (a few exceptions).
But the money keeps growing. And the people generating the biggest part of it are football players. Shouldn’t they get a share? It’s the capitalist way, they’re the ones getting beat up for a good TV show. The schools get all that money, they can’t pay people. So they sink a lot of it into facilities, staff, coaches salaries. Nature abhors a vacuum. It has to go somewhere. And some goes to women’s sports. Way more than they generate. But “college.“
There has been wrangling over how much women get, and under what circumstances. Far as I can tell, it has never been dependent on what they generate. It’s hard to square the capitalist approach, where the producers of income get a fair share of the cash they generate, with the everyone gets fed from the same bowl in this academic community approach.
i guess we will see. But down deep I feel like some enterprising lawyers are preparing for the new financial arrangement with every expectation of Litigation Wave 2, meant to correct any perceived shortfall in amounts paid to the women.
if, say, UGA football generates 200 million a year, I can see why players have a fair argument for, say, 22% of that. But track athletes? Golfers? Sure, let UGA pay them…from their own cut. And what about title IX? Equivalent money?
i don’t know the right answer. But I doubt it’s “sure, the girls will just agree they generate essentially Zero or less and be happy with less.” I could be wrong.
